The North Valley Mountain Film Festival is celebrating its 17th annual event on March 4th at the Silverton Memorial Hall. This year’s lineup includes a diverse range of films and slideshows. Taking us on a journey from mountain top to valley bottom while sharing stories of adventure and culture from the Columbia Basin and beyond. This year’s films touch on a variety of themes including history, local arts and culture, and Kootenay-based adventure films, all set against a backdrop of beautiful and wild landscapes.
Kootenay Grizzlies showcases some of the most recent work of local videographer and regular contributor Jesse Schpakowki. Shot over 4 days in the Kootenay wilderness, Jesse observes multiple grizzlies as they hunt for Kokanee salmon in the Lardeau river. With stunning visuals this short film inspires a mutual respect between humans and animals and the environment we share.
Washed Away – Stories of Displacement on the Columbia River is a short film by award-winning film maker and photographer Agathe Bernard, in collaboration with Revelstoke Museum and Archives. The film dives beneath the surface to explore the impacts of the Columbia River Treaty on the communities and residents of the Columbia Valley south of Revelstoke.
During the summer of 2022 local adventurer Erika Momeyer packed her gear, loaded her canoe and headed north to Fort St. James. From there she followed some of the dustiest roads imaginable to Chuchi Lake Fishing lodge, where a local fishing guide brought her to Tsayta Lake and the beginning of her trip. With her slideshow Nation Lakes Canoe Route 2022, Erika shares some of the stories of her epic 8-day solo adventure.
Enjoy these shows and more, starting at 7 pm on March 4th. Doors open at 6:30. Proceeds go to support the Lucerne School Outdoor Ed Council. A concession with sweets, popcorn and beverages will be available.
