Local Film Festival Announces People’s Choice Award
The North Valley Mountain Film Festival is partnering with three local businesses to offer a People’s Choice Award for the 2017 event. Valhalla Mountain Touring(VMT), Ambler Mountain Works and Ice Creek Lodge have all made generous contributions towards the award. Cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 will be awarded respectively to the “best” three films voted by the audience at the March 4th film festival.
“We’re thankful for the support of VMT, Ice Creek Lodge and Ambler for stepping up and sponsoring the People’s Choice Award. We hope this award will encourage more Kootenay photographers and film makers to make submissions to the North Valley Festival,” said coordinator Myles Berney.
“We receive excellent submissions from local artists every year and anticipate that the quality will continue”, added Berney. “Our goals haven’t really changed. We strive to provide a community venue for emerging and professional media artists to showcase their work. We think that by offering this award, and advertising in nearby communities, we can provide that homegrown grassroots vibe, while at the same time expanding to a more regional event”.
Submissions are now open for the 2017 event and will be accepted until the January 31st deadline. The NVMFF is looking for films or slideshows that showcase passion for the outdoors or the environment, preferably with a Kootenay connection.

This annual celebration is made possible through the contributions of local artists and volunteers, and this year the NVMFF organizing committee is thankful for support from Shon’s Bike and Ski, Sufferfest and the Columbia Basin Trust through the Community Initiatives Funding Program.
